The library system where I currently work (the King County Library System) is having an employee contest to design a new library card. The theme was “Building Meaningful Connections” and the medium could be anything from photography to artwork. I decided to create a watercolor painting based on the theme – I didn’t want to use actual skin tones to color the hands, so I chose to symbolize connection through the colors I used as well (red and blue, when combined, make purple, which is the color of the heart puzzle pieces). This final piece is a digital compilation of two separate paintings.

I have no idea if I will win (I find out this week who the winner is), but I am really proud of my entry!

UPDATE: I didn’t win the contest, but I did make the cover of the 2021 December Alki Magazine (for the WAshington Library Association)
