Settling Fog

Painted on a whim during my final week of grad school after viewing a watercolor video demonstrating a similar theme.  Reading about acrylic techniques, I discovered paintings done with washes of acrylic colors – as I’ve focused mainly on painting with either oils or watercolors, the idea of mixing acrylic with water never occurred to me. So I figured I’d experiment with painting acrylic similar to how I would paint with watercolors – obviously, canvas doesn’t absorb water like paper, so it was a bit of a different experience. But I’m really pleased with the final result – I captured the moodiness of misty trees and layers of clouds as I wanted to. And the feeling of settling calm both almost unreal yet welcome. Acrylic on canvas. Actual size is 15 inches by 30 inches.
